Spooky Season Song: Adam Staple’s Michael Myers

The end of October is fast approaching.

I’ve already started watching creepy movies and nostalgic Halloween TV specials. Now I’m ready to turn my attention to seasonally appropriate music and Adam Staple’s last album, Quiet Part Loud, has given me a great track to start with.

“You’re always coming after me like Michael Myers,” he sings in ‘Michael Myers.’ The title, of course, references the masked killer of the Halloween movie series. It’s full of high-energy, rock fun with enough references to the classic thriller to put anyone in a Halloween frame of mind.

In the context of the album, which Staple says represents “overcoming years of internalized shame about having a mental illness,” the song feels like it might mean more.

Check out Quiet Part Loud and decide for yourself.

You might also want to check out Staple’s instagram — he seems to be having fun with plenty of Michael Myers-esque imagery!

Songs for a Spooky Season Playlist

Okay, they’re not all Halloween songs, but this playlist of Newfoundland and Labrador artists cover a range of themes that definitely help to set the end of October mood.

Ghosts, demons, murderers, devils, dead bodies, hell, Shakespearean witch quotes, gothic novel references, wolves howling, slasher-flick killers… this playlist’s got them all.
