Evergreen by Jenna Maloney

“You’ve helped me rediscover my love for this time of year, the beauty in December has never been so clear,” sings Jenna Maloney in her 2021 Christmas single Evergreen.

It’s a beautiful track that is seasonally-appropriate without screaming Christmas (which is quite a feat since it features jingle bells and an interpolation of ‘O Holy Night’).

The track reminds me of Imogen Heap, circa 2006.

You can hear more from from Maloney in the form of Port-aux-Poutine. She is half of the folk-pop duo and they have just released a Christmas ep titled La Veille Du Réveillon.

Tangent: Does anyone else remember Imogen Heap’s video for ‘Canvas’?

It was shot, in part, in Bonavista and features a man walking through woods and snowy, icy landscapes carrying an easel.

Check it out.

More Christmas and Holiday Music from Newfoundland & Labrador

Stay tuned for more great Christmas songs from Newfoundland and Labrador.

I'm a big fan of traditional Christmas music, I love to hear a modern rendition of a 300 year old carol but, occasionally, a brand new song comes to my attention and dominates my Christmas listening. Newfoundland and Labrador's musicians have been holding their own in both regards. I’ll be sharing local songs —both old and new— from now until Christmas in my 2023 NL Music Advent Calendar.
