The Missus Downstairs

TV

I watched the entire first season of the Dave Sullivan/Mary Walsh series The Missus Downstairs and I want more. The six mini-episode series tells the story of John (Dave Sullivan), a quiet man, and his odd, anything but quiet, downstairs neighbour Mildred (Mary Walsh).

John is trying to navigate the ever-shifting pandemic and is forced to make a quick decision about where to live. He finds a place that seems ideal. Then he meets Mildred. She is opinionated, lacks boundaries and has a knack for making John feel uncomfortable.

The series succeeds on the strength of Sullivan’s and Walsh’s performances. John is as convincingly insecure as Mildred is self-assured.

Full of cut-aways and fourth-wall breaking asides, The Missus Downstairs is fast paced, strangely relatable and incredibly funny.

It’s available right now on demand at Bell Fibe TV1. Check it out.

UPDATE!

And now there is a second season… and I t continues to deliver. The humour is sharp and the rural Avalon Peninsula vistas are as beautiful as ever.

Be sure to check out the Christmas episode with guest star Andy Jones.
