The Once: The Valley of Kilbride (Acoustic)

The song Valley of Kilbride is a beautiful song. It tells the story of a young World War 1 soldier from Newfoundland who is killed on the battlefield in France. As he lies dying, his last words are of his family, his love and his home.

It’s powerful.

I’ve previously called The Once’s 2011 recording of the track (from Row Upon Roof the People They Know) the definitive rendition. I’m going to update that — it’s one of the definitive versions.

The acoustic take on The Once’s new Acoustic Vol. 1nce — which was recorded live at the Arts and Culture Center in Corner Brook, NL is equally fantastic.

The whole album is worth hearing.
