Adam Baxter: 21s

Award-winning Newfoundland singer-songwriter Adam Baxter is in a reflective mood. His new single, “21s,” from the upcoming album OTIS, is a thoughtful, folky meditation on youthful friendships and how they change as we grow older.

a strong slice of modern folk.

Inspired by Baxter’s memories of life in the early 1990s, the song reflects on the strange reality that people who once felt inseparable can slowly become strangers. “The song,” Baxter says, “is really about remembering those friendships and recognizing how meaningful they were.”

While the lyrics look backward, the sound feels firmly rooted in the present. Driven by warm acoustic guitars and produced by Dean Stairs, “21s” is a strong slice of modern folk — nostalgic without feeling like it’s stuck in the past. It’s well worth a listen, and an easy addition to any folk-inspired playlist.

Check it out now, and stay tuned for more on OTIS, which is expected later this year.

I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…

It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).

Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
