Ana and Eric: Autumn Bliss
Autumn is here… which always gives me mixed emotions. Fall in Newfoundland is beautiful, but there’s still something difficult about letting go of summer.
This year, though, I have some new music from Ana and Eric to ease the transition, and the timing couldn’t be better — as I write it’s the first day of Fall and I’m staring down an Environment Canada frost warning.
It’s the perfect soundtrack for the season.
“Autumn Bliss” is the first single from the duo’s upcoming sophomore album, Older Than Sadness. Blending bossa nova and folk, the song reflects on the ways places and memories become part of us.
According to Eric, the song explores “the ways in which places and spaces inhabit us. It is about how songs come alive and how memories inspire and shape the present and our future.”
There’s a distinctly Brazilian influence in the music, while the imagery draws from Newfoundland. It’s a reflection of Ana and Eric’s experience as Brazilian and Newfoundland-based artists — and of the space created where those two places meet.
As they put it, “Autumn Bliss only exists where Newfoundland and Brazil meet, a space that has been little explored but is filled with ever-flowing beauty.”
I like that.
I also like what the song has to say about transitions — about leaving a place or season behind. Just because you’re no longer there doesn’t mean you’ve left it entirely.
“So everywhere I go,” they sing, “I take the sea, I take the summer breeze.”
And really, that sounds like a pretty sensible approach to Newfoundland autumn: take a little summer with you, there will be plenty of cold and windy days ahead when you’ll be glad you have it.
Check out “Autumn Bliss” now — it’s the perfect soundtrack for the season. It is available now wherever you stream your music.
And stay tuned for Older Than Sadness, coming in early 2027.
I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…
It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).
Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
