Adam Staple: Supervillan
Adam Staple has been making music for a long time. First as a drummer and percussionist with a whole host of local bands, and then, in 2020, when health issues forced him to step back from the stage, he pivoted to writing songs, building a home studio, and making his own records.
Since then, he’s released some great music. SuperAntiHero (2021) and Quiet Part Loud (2023) were both full of well-crafted rock songs, with lyrics that were as personal and thought-provoking as the music was compelling.
Adam Staple is back with SuperVillain, a five-track EP that gets in, packs a punch, and leaves you thinking.
And now he’s back with a new EP.
Released in August 2026, SuperVillain is a tight 5-song collection that continue the honest, introspective lyricism of his previous releases. It clocks in at about 16 minutes, so there’s not much room for hanging around — the songs get in, pack a punch, and leave you thinking.
My current favourite is “Underneath My Tongue,” which brings along mentions of silver bullets and Universal monsters (and how they come to life in black and white). It’s a clever bit of writing that’s about a whole lot more than The Wolfman, I think. Like “Michael Myers” — one of my favourites from 2023’s Quiet Part Loud — it uses a movie monster to get at something considerably more human.
SuperVillain is another solid addition to Staple’s growing catalogue and is well-worth your attention.
