Guilty by Julia Dawson

It was just about a year ago that I first heard Bay Roberts singer-songwriter Julia Dawson. She appeared on Trinity Hall Christmas, Vol. 2 with a beautiful cover of Chris Tomlin and Lauren Daigle’s “Noel.” Her voice stood out immediately— it’s a great blend of emotive and confident. What I didn’t know at the time was that she had the songwriting talent to match.

Sleek, confident, and playlist-ready.

Over the past year, Dawson has released two original singles. Her debut, “Alone,” dropped in June 2025, produced by Mark Feener and mixed by Grammy winner Greg Wells. It quickly surpassed 100,000 streams and picked up steady radio play on Hot 99.1—an impressive launch for any artist, let alone one who had just graduated high school… cause Dawson just did that.

Now she’s a music student at Memorial University and she’s back with a follow-up. And it proves Alone was no fluke.

“Guilty” is a mature, moody pop ballad about betrayal—delivered from the perspective of someone scorned. Written when she was only 16, it shows a strong instinct for storytelling and restraint. The track is sleek, confident, and playlist-ready.

It’s seriously good, and I can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Go give “Guilty” a listen wherever you stream your music.

I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…

It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).

Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
