Dreaming of a Lo-Fi Christmas by Wade Tarling

Local pianist, educator, and composer Wade Tarling has a talent for creating atmosphere and this Christmas he’s turned his attention to the world of lo-fi.  His latest release, Dreaming of a Lo-Fi Christmas, is a two-track EP featuring cool, cozy takes on “White Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. Both tracks bring warmth: he delivers a gentle jazz influence, and an easy nostalgia that makes me want a full album in this style.

I’m not surprised — Tarling’s already proved he knows his way around festive music. His 2019 instrumental album Winter Songs remains one of my seasonal favourites, full of calm, candlelight-appropriate arrangements that hold up year after year.

And once the holiday lights come down, Tarling’s recent release Shoreline Sounds is well worth exploring. Inspired by eight different Newfoundland and Labrador locations, it transforms the province’s landscapes into vivid, drifting soundscapes—a musical road trip across NL.

You can find his music on bandcamp, and wherever you stream your music.

Robert grew up in a tiny Newfoundland community called Happy Adventure. These days he lives in Gander, NL and his happiest adventures are spent with his two Labrador retrievers exploring the island while listening to a soundtrack of local music.

When the dogs are napping Robert takes photos, writes about Newfoundland, and makes a podcast.
