Peter Vance: Breaking Chains Video

When I first heard Peter Vance’s Breaking Chains back in November one of the things I loved about it was its nod to the 1980s. The production, while very contemporary, references the hits of that decade in the best way possible. And it’s got a great melody - one that I find myself humming all the time.

Now, two months later, Vance has released a video for the track.

It was worth waiting for.

The music video, which in now on YouTube carries on referencing the 80s and, except for the higher resolution images, could have taken place in, I don’t know, 1985? With Vance’s styling and some of the shots in the video (including close-ups of dashboard gauges) the whole in the video is giving me A-Ha vibes (which definitely had a break away vibe all its own).

Am I wrong? It’s a subtle (and clever) nod back to the era.

If that weren’t reason enough to check it out, one of the stars of the video is a night drive through colour-saturated downtown St. John’s - it’s beautiful and I love it.

So, when it comes to Vance, I’m still a big fan.

Get the song. Watch the video.
