With Violet’s With Friends
If there’s one thing With Violet have proven over the past few years, it’s that they know how to craft a pop song.
a bold, genre-blurring exploration of song.
The St. John’s-based alt-pop group has steadily built a loyal following with their signature blend of jazz-infused pop-rock, danceable energy, and sharp songwriting. Now, just in time for summer 2026, they’re back with a new release that feels like the perfect soundtrack for warm evenings, long drives, and late-night fun.
Their latest EP, With Friends, delivers exactly what the title promises: a collaborative collection that pairs the band with a range of artists, each bringing a different energy and flavour to the project. Rather than feeling disconnected or experimental for the sake of it, the EP is a bold, genre-blurring exploration of song that’s as confident as it is compelling.
Among the featured collaborators are Rachel Cousins on the guitar-forward “Failing Fortune,” Dacoda on “Dancing Where You Left Me Alone,” and Jing Xia on the exciting “Trippin’ On Sunshine.” Each guest artist leaves an imprint on their song, but none of them overshadow the band itself. Instead, the collaborations feel natural — like the work of artists who genuinely enjoy creating together.
Usually this is the part where I’d single out one standout song and tell you where to start. But I can’t do that here. Every track brings something different to the table, and the EP works best as a full listen from beginning to end. It’s one of those rare releases where skipping around almost feels like missing the point.
With Friends is bright, reflective, a little nostalgic, and probably, as the title suggests, best enjoyed with friends — so take a listen, then tell your friends. This is music that deserves to be heard.
You can stream With Friends now wherever you get your music.
I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…
It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).
Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
