Down by Chris Hibbs
I’ve been listening to Chris Hibbs’ new single Down on repeat, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It’s a guitar-driven alt-rock track with a solid melody, lyrics that stick with you, and a real sense of momentum — the kind that builds steadily and pulls you along without ever feeling rushed. There’s a quiet, low-key confidence in the way it unfolds, and it feels like the work of someone who knows exactly what kind of song they wanted to make.
Hibbs describes it as “my first experiment with recording my own solo single.” If that’s the case, I’d say the experiment paid off. For me, Down works on every level. It’s the kind of debut that feels less like a beginning and more like a continuation of something solid.
And it should. This might be his first solo release, but Hibbs isn’t new to the scene. He’s a member of The Way East (who have a new track on the way) and The Arbiters, who recently dropped a six-song EP.
So if Down hits the right note for you, there’s plenty more to explore.
Down is out now wherever you get your music — it’s definitely worth your attention.
I’m obsessed with music from Newfoundland and Labrador…
It’s fresh, wild, and full of surprises. The artists here are pumping out so much new stuff, it’s hard to keep up. So, I started a playlist of my faves—tons of genres, but the only rule is they’re local and totally repeat-worthy. I update it regularly, so follow along (on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube).
Trust me, there’s a ton of good stuff coming your way.
