Christmas Fancy by The Once

Christmas Fancy, written by Bud Davidge and recorded by Simani, is already a local Christmas classic. It’s a warm, nostalgic ode to Newfoundland Christmases of the past.

The Once have somehow managed to take this beloved holiday staple and make it unmistakably their own. And that’s no small feat, really. Covering a classic without losing its spirit — and still managing to have it sound fresh and distinctly “The Once” — is tricky work, but they’ve nailed it.

The new version appears on their brand-new and whimsically titled EP Fallen Tree (Side B). And in case you’re suddenly googling ‘Side A’ — don’t worry, you didn’t miss anything. It’s not out yet.

The band promises we’ll get Side A next year, and truthfully, it’s nice to have something on the 2026 Christmas list to look forward to already!

If you want to experience The Once and all their Christmas magic in person, you’re in luck — they’re touring throughout December. Get the dates here.
